Happyland is a winner!

On April 28, the Saskatchewan Books Awards Gala sparkled. Historian and author Curtis McManus was among thirteen award recipients. He was pleased to receive the Nonfiction Award for his book, Happyland: A History of the "Dirty Thirties" in Saskatchewan, 1914-1937. The book was also nominated for the Scholarly Writing Award, the First Book Award, and the Book of the Year Award. The jury's comments, included in the program, indicated that his book is "destined to become a classic."

The Saskatchewan Book Awards recently announced their shortlist.  Happyland: A History of the “Dirty Thirties” in Saskatchewan, 1914-1937 is up for an award in four (!) categories: Scholarly Writing, Non-Fiction, First Book, and Book of the Year. Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala in Regina on April 28.

The Art of John Snow, the first major book on Canadian printmaker John Snow is now in print!

The buzz on The Art of John Snow  is tremendous and author Elizabeth Herbert is in demand these days.  Some of the events celebrating the publication of The Art of John Snow are:

Thursday, March 10, noon to 12:45 p.m. -- An illustrated talk by Elizabeth Herbert, "John Snow: An Artist You Should Know About" in the Conco theatre on the main floor of Glenbow Museum.

On October 22 as part of Open Access Week, the University of Calgary Press launched our first open-access book - Grey Matters: A Guide to Collaborative Research with Seniors. Written by Nancy Marlett and Claudia Emes, Grey Matters offers groundbreaking, practical methods for participatory action research with and by seniors.
