Les editions 3D, supported by the Canadian Studies Program, the National Literacy Secretariat, Alberta Education (ACCESS Program) and the National Film Board of Canada, has developed two interactive CD-ROMs, one for French and one for English.

Intended audience:

  • learners of English as second language
  • the literacy community
  • those with interest in intergenerational learning

The animated film The Sweater, produced by the National Film Board of Canada and based on the short story, The Hockey Sweater by Roch Carrier, is typically Canadian. It defines our national icons and, at the same time, highlights the universal notions of rivalry and camaraderie, cultural duality - anglophone and francophone - and common traits. Through the sport of hockey and Roch Carrier's classic story, our goal is to better acquaint learners with English language and Canadian culture. The intent is to connect with young Canadians and new Canadians through reading and the sport of hockey. At the centre of the CD-ROMs is the National Film Board's animated film based on Roch Carrier's famous hockey story. In addition to the film, The Hockey Sweater CD-ROM contains hours of interaction at three levels of difficulty. Supporting the NFB film are interviews with Mr. Carrier and with Quebec folk artist Marcel Dargis, pages from Eaton's 1946-47 catalogue, "hockey cards" and computer-based activities.
